The Santa Barbara Polo Club grass season came to a thrilling close for the year with the Last Chance tournament. Eight teams from all over California trekked to Santa Barbara to partake in the fun, both on and off the field. Toto and the Teens, Only Fools, IGA/ Clearmind, and World Gym successfully secured their place in the Last Chance Final on the main field in front of a sell out crowd.

After multiple knock out rounds, World Gym and IGA/ Clearmind landed in the finals. IGA/ Clearmind came in as the challengers, with World Gym’s team previously seasoned and crowned on numerous occasions. World Gym began with a 0.5 goal on handicap and also an early lead with a quick goal from Tom Schuerman, countered by a goal from Piers Bossom. In the last minute, with the game going to World Gym by 0.5, Alejandro Nordheimer cleared the field to convert a goal for IGA/ Clearmind on his talented gray mare. The glorious win went to IGA/ Clearmind, with the runners-up, World Gym. For his efforts, assisted by his gray mare, Alejandro Nordheimer received Most Valuable Player and his mare “Malteada” won best playing pony.

Thank you everyone for a great 2022 grass season. While the grass fields are closed for the winter Jeff Scheraga will continue in the arena with the polo school, arena chukkers, scholastic and collegiate polo.

Good luck to all of our polo players in their winter seasons and hope to see everyone back here next year.
