Policies and Procedures
If your child is sick, please cancel the lesson for the health and recovery of your child; we will work with you under certain circumstances. Late arrival is time lost and can not be made up. This keeps a fair schedule for the other families.
The instructor reserves the right to terminate lessons at any time. We stay committed to maintain a child friendly and safe environment for the families and teachers.
What do I need for swim lessons in general?
Swimsuit, sunscreen, swim diaper for children 4 and under (accidents happen!,) towel, long hair must be pulled back including bangs, nails trimmed (yes, some children are very timid and can hold on tight!,) extra change of clothes, water and snack for the ride home! Please remember, these are swim lessons so absolutely NO floaties.
What can I expect from the lessons?
Creating smart habits around and in the water is the foundation in which swimming is learned. This will instill making good choices around any body of water. Once the safety foundation is laid, we start to learn our water basics and build.
Please be patient if your child is new to the pool. Children can take up to 4-6 lessons before they try putting their eyes in. Some will jump right in.
My child is nervous, they may want me, they don’t like it, what do I do?
Oftentimes, children look to their parents as the safety net. Your child is in a new environment with a new person. It is completely normal for them to react this way!
It is best for parent’s to watch from a protected view where the child can’t see you if they start to cry. This helps the instructor redirect the focus, and begin to build confidence and trust through water exploration. Positive reinforcement, confidence building, and consistency will help swim through the initial waves.
Andrea Lionello, Swim Instructor
Hi, I’m Andrea! Swimming has always been a part of my life as I grew up swimming competitively up and down the Central Coast. I took up the love of Water Polo in High School and continued on to play at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo for College.
During my summers home, I would teach alongside my Mom for her swim school in the Santa Ynez Valley. The experiences have helped me develop different styles of teaching; most importantly adaptability to student's learning styles. This inspired me to start my own swim school called Rincon Swim School here in town and now I am thrilled to do the same for the Polo Club!
Before I was a Mom, I knew the importance of swimming for all ages. Now that I have 2 of my own little boys, I have an even deeper connection to how crucial water safety and swimming are. All the joy, dedication, hard work, and love of teaching turned a dream into reality and here we are. I am so excited to make more positive impacts on lives. I am so inspired and surrounded by other hard-working Moms who have motivated and helped me along the way. I am forever grateful for this opportunity.
Outside of swim school, I love to be outdoors. I run, hike, horseback ride, cook, and do just about anything fun with my family and friends. We love to camp, spend days at the beach, go on bike rides, work in our gardens, orchard, and tend to the Hens.
I hope to swim with you all soon!
